Perpetual Learning

Here is your first mental tip: Great people are often built by knowledge. They will certainly be empowered by it. Many successful and noteworthy individuals, from Bill Gates to Elon Musk, have attributed much of their success to reading. Steve Jobs for example read an average of 50 books per year for much of his adult life. In order to be a confident and successful person in your industry, it is important to be learning and expanding your own knowledge consistently and constantly. This is a value that many lose once they dive into their first major venture.

You Have to Spend Money to Make Money

While there are of course exceptions to every rule this one does tend to remain true. Now this mental tip isn’t about re-mortgaging your house or selling your soul in order to invest in something. It’s a reminder that you get what you pay for. In the vast majority of businesses there will be a definite case of money out before money comes in.

Investing in quality throughout the process of building your business will ensure your reality meets the standards of your vision. After all, there will come a time in which you or your prices are called in to question. You will need to justify the value of what it is you offer to others. You will need to be prepared to spend in order to earn in many cases, even in the very simple case of marketing your business or brand as effectively as possible.

Taking Care of Yourself Not Just Business

Here’s the real cheese. We’ve all heard statements like “invest in yourself not just your business” and other pearls like “you can’t take over the world without a good night’s sleep”. They can be easy to dismiss. But the truth is that the underlying message has genuine meaning and is important. It’s tough out there, striving for success, competing against many other individuals and businesses that all want the same thing. It’s stressful and stress is an underestimated toxic component that if left unchecked, can do substantial damage over time.

Ensure that no matter how busy your schedule is, that you are making time for yourself. Switch off, relax, exercise and absolutely make sure you are getting a healthy amount of sleep. Your ability to stick it out for the long haul will be depleted if you’re not taking care of yourself. Ensure that you make a note of these useful mental tips and give yourself some me-time when they aren’t being met.
